On August 28, 2019, Meru senator Mithika Linturi's divorce hearing with Marianne Kitany entered a crucial phase.
Kitany had declined to have a private hearing, making the proceedings public.
Kitany was expected to complete her testimony and present evidence of their marriage, including a video of photos showing her traditional wedding to Linturi.
Linturi, on the other hand, had brought a VHS of his wedding day, which he claimed was a proof of their marriage.
Kitany stated that she had obtained a marriage decree in December 2015, making her free to marry Linturi in 2016.
The wedding took place on March 26, 2016.
Kitany provided a video of photos confirming the traditional wedding, which included a flash disk containing the images.
One of the photos showed Kitany smiling while holding a bunch of miraa, a symbol of marriage in their culture.
Another photo showed Linturi handing over the miraa to Kitany, with a big smile on his face.
The miraa handed to her had a symbol of a manhood, further solidifying the marriage.
