On August 27, 2019, a dispute between Gor Mahia management and former Harambee Stars striker Dennis Oliech escalated after the player denied a letter terminating his contract.
According to Oliech, the injury he suffered at the end of last season, which left him with a fractured hand, is the main reason he has not been attending training sessions.
"These stories you have been hearing are all lies and the truth of the matter is that I have never recovered from the injury on my hand that fractured, the bandage was just removed two weeks ago," Oliech said in an interview with Nation Sport.
Oliech claimed that the team manager, Omondi Aduda, had only contacted him twice, and even then, he could have sent a text message. He also stated that he had trained with the team twice after their return from Burundi and had been advised by a doctor to stay away due to his injury.
He further alleged that the termination of his contract was a ploy to victimize him for his role in advocating for players' rights, including better salaries and addressing mismanagement at the club.
Gor Mahia CEO Omondi Aduda, however, insisted that the decision to terminate Oliech's contract was based on gross misconduct and failed attempts to reach him.
"We are done with him and any action he takes is on his own hands," Aduda said.
