On August 27, 2019, English football club Bury FC was expelled from the Football League, marking the end of their 125-year existence in the sport.
The decision was made after the club failed to prove their financial viability, forcing them to postpone five League One fixtures and an EFL Cup tie earlier in the season.
As the first team to drop out of the EFL since Maidstone's liquidation in 1992, Bury FC's expulsion leaves 23 teams campaigning in the season, with three teams set to be relegated.
According to EFL executive chair Debbie Jevans, 'Today is undoubtedly one of the darkest days in the league's recent history. The EFL has worked determinedly and tirelessly to avoid this outcome, and it is with a heavy heart that this situation has been forced upon us.'
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's future at the club remains uncertain, with speculation surrounding his potential departure at the end of his current contract.
