Prudential Plc, a UK-based insurer with operations across Asia and Africa, has submitted an application to become an anchor client of the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC).

The insurer, which serves 17 million life customers in Africa and Asia, emphasized its commitment to expanding financial services across the continent. Its application coincided with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NIFC and TheCityUK, reflecting strengthened UK-Kenya economic ties.

Key Figures and Partnerships

Prudential’s application was formalized at a London event attended by UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, Treasury officials, Kenyan Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani Kanacho, and leaders from UK financial institutions. The company highlighted Africa’s strategic importance in its growth plans, citing opportunities for innovation and economic resilience.

NIFC’s Vision and Support

The NIFC, established under the Nairobi International Financial Centre Act of 2017, aims to attract $2 billion in investments by 2030. It offers a regulatory framework designed to foster financial sector development, with support from UK stakeholders including Financial Sector Deepening (FSD) Africa and FSD Kenya.

TheCityUK, representing UK financial services, signed an MoU with NIFC to enhance collaboration. CEO Miles Celic noted Kenya’s potential to develop Nairobi as a regional financial hub, building on existing partnerships with FSD Africa and FSD Kenya.
