On Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred in Kamato Pundo village, Suba North Constituency, Homa Bay County, where a 56-year-old man was killed by his younger brother in a dispute over a piece of land.
The deceased, Joseph Olale, a resident of Ahero in Kisumu County, had traveled to his rural home in Homa Bay to participate in the 2019 census. However, his visit turned tragic as he was killed by his brother Ben Olale over an unresolved land dispute.
According to Lambwe West location Chief Daniel Obure, a fight ensued between the two brothers before the suspect hacked his elder brother with a machete. The incident occurred just a few hours after census officials had visited the homestead and enumerated the family.
Mbita Sub-County Police Commander Charles Mwangi confirmed that the suspect, who had fled after the incident, has since been arrested and is expected to be arraigned on murder charges.
