On Monday night, a pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle driven by comedian Davis Mwabili, also known as Inspector Mwala, in Kilifi. The accident occurred at around 11pm in the Kwa Randi area.

According to police, Mwala was driving from Mazeras to Kaloleni when the incident happened. They claim he was drunk at the time and attempted to overtake an oncoming car, veering off the road and hitting 35-year-old Samwel Mwaki.

The vehicle dragged Mwaki for approximately 100 metres before coming to a stop. Police were called to the scene and rescued Mwala, who was being attacked by a mob of irate boda boda riders. The police fired into the air to disperse the crowd and Mwala's vehicle was vandalised, with its battery stolen.

Mwala, who was uninjured, was taken into custody by police at the Rabai police station for questioning. He claimed to have been attending a funeral in the area and was driving to Miritini, Mombasa, where he would spend the night.

At the time of going to press, it was unclear whether Mwala would be charged and for what crimes.
