On August 27th, 2019, an American man was arrested in Nairobi for allegedly taking photos of parliament buildings, a restricted area.

Jason Thomas Dorsey, the accused, made shocking claims of sexual assault while appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi on Tuesday.

According to the court proceedings, Dorsey was arrested on Sunday and locked at Parliament Police Station for allegedly filming Parliament.

Magistrate Andayi directed the Nairobi Central DCIO to investigate Dorsey's claims of sexual assault while in custody and present a report to the court on Thursday, August 29th.

Dorsey was charged with taking photos of a restricted area and assaulting a police officer while performing his duty.

Denying the charges, Dorsey told the court that he only touched the officer in self-defense as they were confiscating his headphones.

The magistrate further ordered Jason, who is not represented, to be transferred from Parliament Police Station to Central Police Station and be given medical attention.

Magistrate Andayi warned Dorsey that he risks being jailed for five years if found guilty of the charges.
