Journalist Jackie Maribe's job may be at risk after the state opposed her release on bail, citing concerns that her TV appearances could intimidate witnesses in her murder case.
Prosecution counsel Catherine Mwaniki made the argument before Justice James Wakiaga, stating that it would be unfair for Maribe to continue appearing on TV while witnesses testify against her.
‘I urge you to consider that the second accused person is a news anchor and if released on bail, the court should give alternative conditions to ensure she does not intimidate the witnesses,’ Mwaniki said.
Maribe and her fiancé Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, have been in remand for one month after being charged with the murder of Monica Kimani.
On August 24, 2018, the two were charged afresh after the prosecution amended the charge sheet to include ‘other suspects not before court’.
Investigations are ongoing, and the prosecution fears that the suspects would interfere with the case if freed.
