On August 27, 2019, Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia made headlines by terminating the contract of striker Dennis Oliech.
The decision was made after a series of incidents, including Oliech's poor performance on the pitch and his repeated absence from training without permission from the club.
According to a club statement, the player's actions were deemed a breach of his contract, citing Clause 6 of the Player Agreement Contract and FIFA Article 14 Regulations of the Statutes and Transfer of Players.
The grounds for termination included Oliech's 'serious misconduct and continued poor performance on the field of play,' as well as his decision to run for political office, which the club deemed 'inconsistent with and inimical to your standing as the club's football player.'
The club has promised to settle Oliech's dues and has officially written to him informing him of the termination of his contract.
