Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Agnes Wahome announced a second revision phase for KCSE 2020 candidates to modify course selections on June 22. The move aims to address issues where top-performing students face exclusion from preferred programs despite meeting admission requirements.

Wahome explained the placement system uses a merit-based ranking mechanism, allocating candidates to courses based on academic performance. She noted that popular programs have limited spots, with students assigned in descending order of scores until capacity is reached. "Universities collectively have limited spaces for high-demand courses, so students are prioritized based on their rankings," she said.

The CEO emphasized that students who miss their preferred courses can pursue them through self-sponsored pathways. She advised applicants to prioritize program availability over institutional prestige, stating: "Many students focus on university reputation rather than course competitiveness, leading to mismatches." Wahome recommended targeting institutions with lower application volumes for in-demand programs.

The second revision follows an initial window from April 7-16, during which candidates finalized course selections and new applicants registered for placement. Wahome highlighted ongoing challenges in vocational training enrollment, noting: "Despite available opportunities, few students opt for technical courses." She urged applicants to align choices with market-relevant skills.
