On August 26, 2019, the IEBC received a letter from officials in the office of Deputy President William Ruto, listing six aspirants for the Kibra by-election, including footballer Obado Mariga.
However, the IEBC has since trashed the letter, calling it fake.
According to a tweet by the IEBC on August 27, 2019, the Commission had forwarded the letter to the Jubilee Party's headquarters for further action.
The IEBC's move comes after the Jubilee Party, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, dismissed a letter published online by Dennis Itumbi, a key figure in the party's faction led by Ruto, as fake.
The letter, which was published online, listed five aspirants who were said to have been cleared by the party to contest in the Kibra by-election.
IEBC has since written to the Jubilee Party, forwarding a copy of the letter for their information and further action.
