Published on August 27, 2019, David Wakhu, a professional golfer from Golf Park, shot a remarkable 69 on the second day of the Safari Tour Golf Series at the Nyali Golf and Country Club, tying for the top spot on the leader board with Alfred Nandwa of Railway and Dennis Saikwa of Royal Nairobi Golf Club.
Wakhu, who had struggled with a 4-over par 75 on Sunday, bounced back with the joint lowest score of the leg so far. Nandwa maintained his steady form, returning a 2-over par 73, while Saikwa recorded a consecutive round of 72, a first for him in the Safari Tour series.
Meanwhile, Nyali's resident professional golfer, Njuguna Ngugi, impressed with a 2-under par 69, jumping up the standings to tie for fourth place alongside Greg Snow at 4-over par 146 overall. Ngugi had started the tournament on a shaky note with a 6-over par 77 score but redeemed himself with the joint lowest score of the event.
Matthew Wahome, making his professional debut, finished the round in sixth with a commendable 5-over par 147 score. The 13-year-old Andrew Wahome, an upcoming Nyali junior golfer, finished strong with a 4-over par 75, despite being the youngest entrant in the tournament's history.
Andrew Wahome expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to play alongside top professionals, hoping that the Safari Tour organizers will continue to invite junior golfers to these events.
Today's round was affected by morning showers and high humidity, but the weather improved in the afternoon, making for easier scoring. A total of 23 players made the cut to play in the final two rounds of the tournament, while 23 others missed out. Daniel Nduva emerged as the only amateur to make it through the final rounds, posting an impressive 1-over par 72 round yesterday and a 80 today.
Action for the third round of the tournament will tee off tomorrow at 10:00am, with Nduva and Justus Madoya first off the tee.
