Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama's transfer saga continues, with Club Brugge emerging as a strong contender to sign him before the European window closes.

According to reports, Club Brugge have offered Wanyama a five-year deal worth £65,000 per week, making him the highest-paid player in the club's history.

The deal is contingent on Club Brugge securing a spot in the Champions League group stage, which they are close to achieving after winning the first leg of their play-off against Austrian side LASK Linz 1-0 on Tuesday.

Wanyama, 28, has slipped down the pecking order at Tottenham Hotspur under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has made it clear that he's done with the midfielder.

Pochettino said in an interview last week: "It's all about performance. Football is for today and tomorrow, not yesterday. In the case of Victor, he suffered an injury and another player stepped up and took his place. We are in a team, we are not a charity."

Wanyama has been linked with a move to Celtic, his former club, after making a phone call to his former team-mate Fraser Forster to hint that he could return to the club.

Wanyama started his professional career with Belgian side Germinal Beerschot AC in 2009 before moving to Scotland giants Celtic for two years. He then joined Southampton in 2013 for £11.5m and later moved to Tottenham Hotspur in 2016.
