British Billionaire's Company Acquires French Ligue 1 Club Nice

Published on August 27, 2019, at 1:44 PM

Jim Ratcliffe, Britain's third richest man, has seen his chemical company acquire French Ligue 1 giants Nice. The 66-year-old had initially set his sights on Manchester United and Chelsea.

OGC Nice is currently being coached by former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira. The team finished 7th in Ligue 1 last season and has already secured two wins in the 2019/20 season, placing them second behind Lyon.

Ratcliffe, the official sponsor of British cycling team Ineos, pumps in almost £40m annually. He was reportedly interested in buying Manchester United and was also linked with a £2 billion bid for Chelsea earlier this year.

It is understood that Ratcliffe was deterred by United's asking price, leaving it unclear if he would still consider a buyout offer despite his desire to invest in football.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported how Jim Ratcliffe inquired about taking over Premier League giants Manchester United. Ratcliffe, a lifelong supporter of Manchester United, was also reported to be interested in buying Chelsea earlier this year.
