Kenya's Population and Housing Census is set to begin on August 27, 2019, with enumerators working from 6am to 6pm. The Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, announced the new schedule following an inter-ministerial meeting.

Enumerators in major urban centers such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Kiambu, Thika, Machakos, and Kisii will work from 6am to 10pm, while those in the rest of the country will work from 6am to 6pm.

According to Kibicho, the seven-day census period is sufficient to enumerate all Kenyans, and the exercise will not be extended beyond August 31.

“I wish to remind enumerators that they work from 6am-6pm and will be held accountable accordingly,” Kibicho said.

He added that each enumerator is expected to visit at least 100 households by the end of the exercise.
