Kenya: 13-Year-Old Girl Arrested for Selling Illicit Liquor, Police Seize KSh 47,000

Published on August 27, 2019, a 13-year-old girl was arrested in Litein for selling illicit liquor, and police seized KSh 47,000 believed to be profits from the illegal business.

According to the Bureti County Commissioner, Moses Mbaruku, more than 700 people have been arrested since January for selling and consuming illicit liquor.

"Washukiwa walipelekwa kortini na kwa jumla walitozwa faini za KSh 3 milioni," Mbaruku said.

Police also arrested two other individuals found drinking chang'aa in the same house as the 13-year-old girl.

Since January, the county government has confiscated 4,537 liters of chang'aa, 51,243 liters of kang'ara, and 27,589 liters of busaa.

"Utengenezaji na unywaji wa pombe umeendelea kushika kasi sehemu hii tofauti na wanavyosema wengine," Mbaruku said.

The 13-year-old girl was arrested on August 25, 2019, and police found 97 liters of illicit liquor in her possession.
