Kenyan Athlete Lilian Kasait Wins African Games Women's 5,000m Gold

On Monday, Lilian Kasait, a 2017 World Cross Country bronze medallist, dominated the field to win the African Games women's 5,000m gold medal in Rabat, Morocco.

Kasait, who also won a silver medal at the 2014 World Under-20 3,000m, finished with a time of 15 minutes and 33.63 seconds, beating the Ethiopian duo of Hawi Feysa Gejia and Alemitu Tariku in 15:33.99 and 15:37.15 respectively.

Kenyan athlete Lydia Jeruto came in sixth with a time of 15:43.56.

Kenya's victory marked the country's second gold medal at the African Games, following Benjamin Kigen's win in the men's 3,000m steeplechase.

Kenya finished the day with seven medals overall: two gold, two silver, and three bronze.
