On August 26, 2019, the government announced an extension of the 2019 census exercise in major urban centers from 6am to 10pm, while rural areas will end at 9pm.

Interior PS Karanja Kibicho made the announcement, stating that the business community had heeded the call to close bars and entertainment joints by Sunday, allowing the census to proceed without interruption.

Enumerators are expected to visit at least 100 households by the close of the exercise on August 31, with a daily target of 14 households.

Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i had initially directed the closure of bars and entertainment joints at 5pm to facilitate the census exercise, which began on Saturday.
