Reports circulating online that former Harambee Stars captain MacDonald Mariga is seeking a parliamentary seat in the Kibra constituency in Nairobi, Kenya, have been denied by the Jubilee Party.
According to a statement by the party's secretary-general, Raphael Tuju, the reports are false and the signature on a letter circulating on social media is a forgery.
Tuju stated, 'It's a fake message. The signature is fake, the information is fake.'
Mariga's interest in joining the Jubilee Party and contesting for the Kibra parliamentary seat comes just days after he met with Deputy President William Ruto.
The Kibra constituency has been vacant since the death of its former MP, Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.
