On August 23, 2018, comedian Kazungu Matano, popularly known as Captain Otoyo, received a sack letter from the human resource manager at Standard Media Group's Radio Maisha.

According to sources, Otoyo's termination was a result of his consistent tardiness and failure to respond to calls from his superiors, including Head of Programmes Lynda Oriaso.

"He was fired on Friday. He could report to work late. The human resource manager had warned him more than once. Sometimes Otoyo could not just show up or pick calls even when Head of Programmes Lynda Oriaso reached him. He had it coming," a source said.

Despite the allegations of indiscipline, Otoyo denied the claims, stating that his absence from air was due to the station's restructuring and programming changes following the exit of Alex Mwakideu to Milele FM.

"I am on duty as has been. Programming changes ongoing," he said in a text message.

It is worth noting that Otoyo had a frosty relationship with his boss and head of Radio Tom Japanni, which may have contributed to his termination.
