Published on August 26, 2019, Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, has stated that he will not beg Raila Odinga to support his 2022 presidential bid.

Speaking during the burial of Machakos member of Parliament Joyce Kamene's father, Mr. David Makumbi, Kalonzo emphasized his readiness to compete fairly for the top seat without seeking Raila's backing.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama had previously stated that Raila Odinga was the man to beat in 2022, causing disquiet within the Wiper Party.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was described by Muthama as too much of a gentleman and not tough enough to run the country effectively, while Deputy President William Ruto was seen as a more focused and results-driven leader but too overbearing and vindictive.

Notably, Kalonzo Musyoka has twice shelved his presidential ambitions to support Raila Odinga in the 2013 and 2017 presidential elections.

However, in 2017, NASA, a joint coalition including Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Isaac Rutto, Moses Wetangula, and Raila Odinga, signed an MoU that would prevent Raila from contesting the presidency in 2022.
