On August 26, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta flagged off the first crude oil shipment at Kipevu Oil Terminal, where he made a stern warning to corrupt individuals.
According to the President, the investigating bodies leading the war against corruption are acting independently and will not take instructions from him.
"The investigating bodies have decided it's a do or die. When they catch up with you, just know I don't give instructions to them. It's you who has been caught on the wrong, we will read in the newspapers that you were nabbed. Right now, there's no making calls for help, carry your own cross," said President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The President's remarks come amid reports of an ongoing probe against KPA (Kenya Ports Authority) officials accused of inflating the construction cost of the Kipevu Oil terminal from its original budget of 12 billion to a whopping 40 billion.
