Government Vehicle Torched in Protest of Fatal Accident

On August 25, 2019, a tragic incident occurred on the Kianyaga-Kutus road in Kirinyaga County, leaving two residents dead and sparking outrage among locals.

A speeding police vehicle allegedly ran over a Boda Boda rider and his passenger, killing them instantly. The victims were identified as a Boda Boda rider and his pillion who died on the spot.

According to eyewitnesses, the Boda Boda was trying to overtake another car when it rammed into the oncoming police vehicle at Rwambiti area. The incident occurred at around 8 pm, as confirmed by Gichugu Deputy OCPD Alfred Ng'eno.

However, the deputy OCPD pinned the blame on the Boda Boda rider, claiming he was drunk during the accident. In contrast, nearby witnesses blamed the police vehicle for over speeding.

Following the incident, angry residents set the government vehicle on fire in protest. The Kianyaga Police Station vehicle was torched by Boda Boda riders and locals, who were outraged by the turn of events.

Alfred Ng'eno has launched a hunt for the locals involved in the incident of torching the government vehicle.
