Kenyan Newspapers Review: August 26, 2019 ¶
As the country prepares for its third day of the national census, newspapers on Monday, August 26, reported on the challenges facing the exercise, including the government's directive to citizens to surrender their identification documents or passports.
The government has also joined other major countries in selling crude oil globally after President Uhuru Kenyatta gives the green light for the sale of KSh 1.3 billion worth of crude oil in Mombasa on Monday.

1. Taifa Leo ¶
The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into an incident where an officer at the LAPSET police station in Lamu bit a 34-year-old woman's ear.
According to the newspaper, Rachael Mwaura was bitten by the officer on Tuesday, August 20, and also suffered a hand injury during the incident.
The authority has dispatched its officers to investigate the matter and charge the officer if found guilty.
2. The Star ¶
The newspaper reports that security officers disrupted a wedding ceremony in Tana River County on Saturday, August 24, to conduct a census exercise.
The county commissioner, Oning'oi Ole Sosio, said the officers were mistaken in thinking that the residents were not attending the wedding ceremony.
However, the residents had already paid KSh 60,000 to use the venue for their wedding ceremony, which was scheduled to take place later that day.

The newspaper reports that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has urged Deputy President William Ruto to support President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake with Raila Odinga if he wants to succeed him.
According to Sonko, if Ruto refuses to respect the president and also fails to support Raila, he will face a tough time in the future.
This comes a week after Senator Maina Kamanda accused Ruto of being disloyal to the president after he ignored him and continued to pursue early 2022 politics.

The newspaper reports that a study has found that the use of herbal medicine is a major contributor to the high number of Kenyans suffering from severe back pain.
The study, conducted by health officials from the Ministry of Health, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Moi University, found that most of the patients had been using herbal medicine, which contained toxic substances that could cause back pain.

The newspaper reports that Kenya Airways is struggling with flight cancellations, with 52 flights cancelled in the past 18 days of August.
The airline has been forced to accommodate passengers in hotels, provide them with food and transportation, which has resulted in a loss of KSh 118 million in August.
