CBK's 'Elfú Moja Kama Change' Deadline Sparks Social Media Backlash

As the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) prepares to phase out the old 1,000 shilling note by September 30th, netizens have taken to social media to mock the bank's tweet about the deadline.

CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge had tweeted a reminder about the deadline, asking if Kenyans were ready for the change. However, a social media user responded with a question, asking if the bank would accept the old note as change.

CBK replied, stating that the old 1,000 shilling note would not be accepted as change, but would be phased out by September 30th. However, this response was met with ridicule from Kenyan netizens, who pointed out that it was impossible to give 1,000 shillings as change in any transaction.

One user joked that the bank would have to give out a lot of change if they were to accept the old note as such. Another user asked if the bank would accept the old note as change if they were to buy a car or pay for a fare.

CBK's tweet has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Kenyans expressing their frustration with the bank's response. The deadline for exchanging the old 1,000 shilling note is September 30th.
