Census 2019: Police Crack Down on Impersonators in Kisumu and Homa Bay

As the 2019 Kenya Census entered its second day, police in Kisumu and Homa Bay counties made significant arrests in connection with impersonation of census officials.

According to reports, two of the suspects were arrested in Homa Bay, while the remaining two were apprehended in Kisumu county.

Police also arrested two individuals in connection with an incident in Maseno, where a census official was assaulted and gang-raped.

Nyanza police boss Vincent Makhoha confirmed the arrests and warned that police are on the lookout for individuals attempting to take advantage of the census exercise to engage in criminal activities.

"We are still following up to see if there will be any impersonators (out there) and any other criminals who want to take advantage of this exercise," Makhoha said.

Meanwhile, police have also arrested two suspects linked to the shocking incident in Maseno, where a census official was gang-raped and robbed.

The suspects will be arraigned on Monday, even as investigations into the matter continue.

Related incidents of crime were reported in Kisii, Migori, West Pokot, Nyamira, and Embu counties as the national population and housing census entered its second day.
