As of August 26, 2019, Kenyans applying for passports must first book appointments through the e-citizen portal before visiting processing centers.
The Immigration Department made this announcement in a notice on Sunday, citing the need to address congestion in immigration stations.
Applicants who have already made online applications are required to revisit the e-citizen portal to book appointments.
Passport applicants will then need to visit processing centers in person to have their biometrics captured.
However, the department has exempted certain groups from this requirement, including public officials with urgent assignments abroad, sick persons, students, and business executives with urgent engagements abroad.
