On August 25, 2019, Rosemary Odinga, daughter of ODM leader Raila Odinga, put to rest concerns among Kibra politicians after announcing she would not be vying for the parliamentary seat.

The seat had been a subject of interest among politicians, with some fearing she would contest and potentially deprive them of a chance to win due to her father's popularity.

However, Rosemary Odinga clarified her stance, stating she would not contest for the seat, but would instead support her father's party, ODM, in the upcoming elections.

She made the announcement after attending a meeting with her father and other ODM candidates.

"I will not be contesting for the Kibra seat, but I wanted to come and tell you that I will support you and work with you," Rosemary Odinga said.

The Kibra parliamentary seat became vacant after the death of former MP Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.

Over 20 candidates have already expressed interest in vying for the seat, with the ODM party expected to announce its candidate on August 31.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has scheduled the by-election for November 7.
