Sean Andrews, grandson of former President Mwai Kibaki, has spoken publicly about his long struggle with depression, which began after the loss of his maternal grandfather at the age of 13.
Published on August 25, 2019, in an interview with The Standard, Sean revealed that he had contemplated suicide and was being bullied in school, exacerbating his situation.
"When I lost my maternal grandfather, I went through depression and it got so bad that I wanted to take my life at some point," Sean said.
He described his grandfather as his rock, his everything, and his best friend, and said that after his death, many people took advantage of him, leaving him paranoid and struggling to cope.
Sean, now 25, says he struggled with depression for many years before seeking help and eventually finding a better place in his life.
He has since quit toxic behaviors, such as drinking alcohol, and is happier and in a much better place, he explained.
Sean, a social media marketer and vlogger, opted to study psychology to help people suffering from depression and mental illnesses, motivated by his own experiences.
