On August 25, 2019, musician Kriss Darlin visited Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), at Kamkunji and asked him to support him in the Kibra by-election.
According to a video posted on social media, Darlin, who is a reggae musician, asked Raila to support him in the election, saying, "Nimeskia kuna vijana wengi kule bunge wanapiga baba, mimi ni kijana mwenzao na naomba niende nipigane na wao ukisubiri 2022." (I have seen many young people in parliament supporting their father, I am one of them and I ask that I be allowed to join them in 2022.)
However, Darlin's request was met with a response from Raila, who said, "Wacha wanipige risasi wakitaka, iwapo hilo litamaanisha ubaki na kuongoza 2022." (Let them shoot, if that means staying and leading in 2022.)
It is worth noting that the Kibra by-election was scheduled to take place on November 7, 2019, after the death of the area's Member of Parliament, Ken Okoth.
