On Sunday, a deadly attack occurred in Forole, Marsabit County, along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, leaving at least three people dead and six others injured.
According to officials, the suspected Ethiopian militia had stolen an unknown number of livestock from Kenya and crossed into Ethiopia.
Marsabit County Police Commander Steve Oloo confirmed that six people were injured in the attack, with two of them in critical condition.
Two boys and a girl, aged between 13 and 15 years, were killed in the incident.
Reinforcement was sent to the area, but the attackers had already crossed into Ethiopia, amid claims of a slow response.
A team of security agents had contacted their Ethiopian counterparts for help to reclaim the stolen animals.
Such incidents are common at the border, with authorities making efforts to address the issue, which is being encouraged by cultural practices and drought.
Separately, in Laikipia area, a police officer was killed in a cattle rustling incident, where gunmen believed to be livestock thieves ambushed a team of officers from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit.
A major operation was mounted in the area to pursue the gang, which had about 100 animals, as they headed towards Pokot area.
No recovery had been made by Sunday, but officials said there were casualties on the side of the rustlers.
