On August 24, 2019, a census enumerator was brutally gang raped by unknown attackers in Maseno, Kisumu County.
The victim, who was also robbed of her gadgets, has since been hospitalized and is in a stable condition.
According to Nyanza police boss Vincent Makhoha, the woman was ambushed outside her gate after being dropped off by her supervisor following the completion of the census exercise.
As a result of the incident, the County Statistics Department has suspended the supervisor due to negligence, and police officers in the region have been asked to make a statement.
The attackers escaped with the woman's torch and power bank but left behind all other census material, prompting a manhunt for the perpetrators.
