On August 24, 2019, the Nakuru Athletics Club played host to the third edition of the Nakuru dog show, dubbed Nakuru Pets Festivals. The event was a fun-filled celebration of canine companionship, attracting over 100 dogs of various breeds.

Organized by Concierge Mediacom, the show aimed to demystify the notion that dogs are only for protection purposes. Instead, it highlighted the joy and companionship that dogs bring to their owners' lives.

Event manager Linda Nyawira shared her own experiences with her German shepherd, saying, 'Once you have a wonderful dog, life without one is a life diminished. My German shepherd makes my heart open a little wider.'

Other dog owners, including Damaris Kelly and Judy Leah, also shared their heartwarming stories of their pets' impact on their lives. Kelly described her little dog as 'heart beat at her feet,' while Leah said, 'The minute I get home and my dog Kelly runs towards me, I forget the bad day in office.'

The show celebrated companionship of dogs while promoting responsible pet ownership, health, and breed preservation. All the dogs at the show were given free vaccination courtesy of Nakuru County government.

According to a new study published by Mayo Clinic, people who own pets, especially dogs, are more likely to have a better heart and mental health. The study found that dogs help children who are mentally challenged to be more intelligent and responsible.

The event also featured a panel of judges, including Dr. Imbugi Luvai and Ms. Linda Brown, who judged the dogs on various criteria, including health, grooming, happiness, communication, obedience, and protection.

Exhibitors at the venue sold various pet care products, including skin care, food items, and pet accessories. The show provided an opportunity for pet lovers to view different breeds in action and fostered exchange of views and opinions regarding present trends in the canine world.
