Deputy President William Ruto eulogised late musician John De'Mathew during his funeral service on August 24, 2019, in Gatanga, Murang'a County.

According to Ruto, he had known De'Mathew through President Uhuru Kenyatta and that the late musician had been a great support to them during their ICC case in 2007.

"I knew De'Mathew through you (Uhuru)...And as they say, he died of sadness, he was a friend," Ruto said.

He also revealed that De'Mathew had been a great support to them during the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

"When we were seeking votes, these musicians led by De'Mathew stood with us again. This means they were our friends, and that's why we are here," Ruto said.

De'Mathew died on August 18, 2019, after being involved in a road accident in Gatanga, Murang'a County.

He was buried on August 24, 2019, after a post-mortem examination revealed that he died due to severe injuries sustained in the accident.
