Kenya's former prime minister Raila Odinga and his family set an example by being among the first to participate in the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, which began on Saturday, August 24, 2019.
According to reports, Raila Odinga and his wife Ida Odinga warmly welcomed census officials to their home on Saturday evening, where they were counted as part of the exercise.
"We welcomed the team of enumerators to our home and we as a family have been counted this evening. I wish all those involved in the exercise all the best as they proceed with the tedious process nationwide and would like to urge all of you to cooperate with them," Raila Odinga tweeted.
Other high-profile Kenyans who participated in the census on Saturday evening include President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family, who were enumerated at the State House by Planning PS Julius Muia and Kenya National Bureau Of Statistics (KNBS) director general Zachary Mwangi.
Former president Daniel Arap Moi and his son Gideon Moi were also counted at their Kabarak home, with Mzee Moi urging Kenyans to fully participate in the exercise.
The 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census commenced at exactly 6pm on Saturday, August 24, and will end on August 31. Those who would not have been enumerated by August 31 are advised to report to the local administrative office.
