Kirdam Road Race Winners Crowned

The second edition of the Kirdam Road Race, held on Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Kabarnet, Baringo County, saw Moses Koech and Valerie Aiyabei emerge as the winners of the 10km and women's categories, respectively.

Koech, who also won the 2018 Imenti Road Race, clocked 28:31.5 to take the top spot, beating Samuel Kiplimo and Shadrack Korir, who settled for second and third place with timings of 28:57.8 and 29:15.6, respectively.

Aiyabei, who had recently won the 2019 Eldoret City Marathon and Iten Road Race, clocked 32:54.53 minutes to cross the finishing line ahead of Chirchir Everlyne and Beatrice Chebet, who came second and third, respectively, with timings of 33:01.42 and 33:32.41.

Speaking after the victory, Koech said, 'I am very happy for the win, I came here well prepared and I was sure of the win. Last year was tough due to race markings but this time round I didn’t encounter any hardship.'

Aiyabei attributed her win to the experience she gained from other races, saying, 'I ran in Eldoret City Marathon and Iten Road Race this year and the experience helped me to win today. I am very happy and for now I am waiting for my manager’s directives to know what next for me.'

The event, which aimed to raise Sh10 million, was graced by Baringo County Governor Stanley Kiptis and other dignitaries. The winners of the 10km men's category pocketed Sh70,000, while the women's category winners received Sh50,000 and Sh30,000, respectively.
