On August 24, 2019, Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege attended the burial of late benga musician John De'Mathew at Gathambia primary school in Murang'a.
During the burial, Chege denied claims of an intimate relationship with De'Mathew, stating that she had met him while working as a broadcaster and that they were just friends.
She challenged those speculating about their relationship to prove and even parade any child they claimed the two sired, saying, "You have seen De'Mathew's first wife here and you have also seen all his children, those who have been speculating that I have a child with the late bring that child now."
Chege also clarified that she only played the role of an "actor" in the Njata Yakwa video because she was an actress and had even helped the singer with ideas in producing the hit.
She stated, "Njata yakwa means my star and many people concluded it was dedicated to her by the deceased. That's not true, De'Mathew was a friend just like he was a friend to all of you who have gathered here to celebrate his life,"
