On August 24, 2019, Murang'a women Representative Sabina Chege addressed a crowd of mourners at Githambia Primary school in Gatanga, where she vehemently denied rumors of a romantic relationship with late singer John De Mathew.
She clarified that the rumors were baseless and urged the public to respect her family and children.
“I have never been John De Mathew’s lover. Please respect my family and children,” she said.
She also dismissed claims of having a child with De Mathew, saying that if such a child existed, they would have been present at the gathering.
“Those of you who are saying I had a child with De Mathew, you could have seen her/him here today,” she said.
As a mother and a public figure, Chege demanded respect from the public, saying that apart from her political role, she was also a mother who deserved to be treated with dignity.
“Apart from being in politics, I’m also a mother and demand my respect,” she said.
