On August 24, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta joined Kenyans in celebrating the life of music icon John DeMathew, who tragically passed away in a road accident along Thika Road on August 18, 2019.

The burial ceremony was held at Githambia Primary in Gatanga, where the President and his Deputy William Ruto were in attendance.

During the ceremony, musician Ben Githae welcomed a fellow musician to perform DeMathew's hit song 'Njata Yakwa', and the President was invited to join in, which he did.

Later, Sabina Chege, who was featured as the love interest in the music video, was invited on stage to dance, and her appearance hyped the crowd, who cheered her on and danced to the popular song.

The ceremony was a celebration of DeMathew's life and music, with the President and other dignitaries in attendance.
