Published on August 24, 2019, Poweramp 3.0 has finally arrived, bringing a new audio engine and a host of exciting features to the table. However, this update comes with a catch – it drops support for devices running Android versions older than 5.0, Lollipop.

According to the latest statistics from Google, about 10% of current devices still run on Android 4.4, KitKat, and later versions. This means that users of these devices will be missing out on Poweramp 3.0's features, including a new audio engine, support for up to 20 music file formats, and better visualizations.

The update also enhances support for Google services like the Google Assistant, Chromecast, and Android Auto. This means that users can now play music using Poweramp and cast it to nearby Chromecast devices, just like they would with streaming music apps like Spotify. Additionally, users with Android Auto units in their cars can now interact with the app more easily, and even control it using voice commands with the Google Assistant.

Poweramp has been a go-to music player for many since its debut on the Android platform almost a decade ago. The developers have been working hard to update the interface to match its feature-set, and this latest update is a testament to their efforts. Despite the drop in support for older devices, Poweramp 3.0 is still worth the Kshs 200 asking price on the Google Play Store.
