President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a directive to realign Cabinet ministries, affecting Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri and boosting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's power.

According to an Executive order dated August 22, the Irrigation State Department will be moved from the Agriculture Ministry to Water and Sanitation under CS Simon Chelugui, a move aimed at enhancing synergy within the Water Sector.

This is part of the President's efforts to implement the Big Four Agenda, a key enabler for the sector.

Kiunjuri's woes seem to have deepened after frequent incidents of reprimanding by the President, including a public scolding in March for what he termed as 'lack of interest'.

Months later, Kiunjuri would again come under fire as leaders from Western Kenya called for his resignation over maize importation plans.

Meanwhile, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has been handed more responsibilities, taking over the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) and the Directorate of National Cohesion and Values.

These changes are aimed at fostering the integration of functions and enhancing the implementation of government projects.

As the head of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, CS Matiang'i will report directly to State House, a move that has been seen as a boost to his power.
