At the ongoing African Games in Rabat, Morocco, Kenyan athletes Faith Ogalo and Everlyn Aluoch have made their country proud by winning silver and bronze medals in Taekwondo.

On Thursday night, Ogalo secured silver in the women's 73kg category after a tough battle against Yassine Hezami of Morocco, who won with a score of 27-11 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

Aluoch, on the other hand, clinched bronze in the women's 67-73 kg category.

For Ogalo, who is a 23-year-old second-year student at Kibabii University, winning silver was a significant achievement, especially considering the quality of opponents she faced in Egypt and Morocco.

'I wanted gold, but going home with silver is not that bad considering the quality of opponents I faced in Egypt and Morocco,' Ogalo told Citizen Digital.

With her sights set on next year's Olympics Qualifiers, which will also be held in Morocco, Ogalo expressed her dream of becoming an Olympic champion one day.

'My dream is to one day be an Olympic champion and I am working towards that. I have been an East Africa Champion now I have moved a step further to the continental stage and I would like to thank my coach and the federation for all the support they have given us,' Ogalo said.

Despite the team's impressive performance, head coach George Wasonga expressed disappointment at the lack of support from the government during their training.

'The team has done very well despite many challenges we have gone through. We never had enough support in our training and we could have done even much better but we are fighting for our flag despite that,' Wasonga observed.
