Kiambu County Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba has announced her interest in running for the Governor's position in 2022, aiming to unseat incumbent Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Speaking at an economic empowerment forum in Kikuyu Constituency on August 16, Gathoni declared her bid to take over from Waititu, citing her ability to achieve more with the county's resources.

She claimed that with a budget of Ksh7 million per constituency, she had accomplished significant projects in Karai, Limuru, Gatundu North and South, Thika, and Laari. Gathoni questioned what she could achieve if given control of the billions allocated to Kiambu County.

Waititu and Gathoni have a history of clashing, including a public disagreement in June during a tree planting activity in Kiambu, where Gathoni criticized Waititu over the disappearance of county funds.

Waititu responded by accusing Gathoni of trying to settle a personal score. The Governor has been facing allegations of embezzlement of Ksh.588million public funds in Kiambu County, leading to attempts by some of his officials to overthrow him.
