Anerlisa Muigai's Parents Granted Bail in Tax Evasion Case ¶
On August 23, 2019, Anerlisa Muigai's prayers for her parents' release from custody seemed to have been answered as the court granted them bail in a tax evasion case.
Tabitha Karanja, the mother of Anerlisa Muigai, was granted 10 million shillings bail within 7 days, while her husband was granted 5 million shillings bail. Keroche Industries, the company owned by the Karanjas, was also handed a 15 million shilling bail.
Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi ruled that the bail terms were fair, considering the age of Tabitha's husband, who is 71 years old. The magistrate stated that it was necessary to ensure that the senior citizen receives proper care and does not have his ability to get medical care curtailed.
The matter will be mentioned on September 2nd, and the pre-trial will be heard on September 24th by Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
