On August 23, 2019, news broke that Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto had made a significant move in his bid for media supremacy.

According to sources, Ruto had initially increased his stake in Nation Media Group to 50%, and has since acquired an additional 10% to reach a total of 60%.

As one of the largest media stations in Kenya, Nation Media Group's acquisition by Ruto is seen as a strategic move ahead of the 2022 elections, in which he has announced his intention to run for the presidency.
