As students resume school after the holidays, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is urging those who sat for their KCSE in 2018 and are yet to report to colleges to apply for HELB loans.
According to HELB, students who did not qualify for university admission are eligible to apply for loans to pursue technical courses in public TVET institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education.
Application deadlines have been extended to August 31st, 2019, to allow students at home to apply.
After making the application, HELB will verify and disburse the money for a student's tuition and upkeep into their respective bank accounts, amounting to Ksh26,400 and Ksh13,600 respectively.
HELB has also disbursed Ksh6,768,528,500.00 to 156,283 undergraduate students, which will also facilitate their transport back to university after the holidays.
HELB is targeting 43,000 TVET students who will benefit from the funds, but at the moment, only 17,980 applications have been submitted.
"We call upon the students who are yet to print and submit their Loan Application forms to hasten the process before the closure of the extended deadline of 31st August 2019," HELB said in a statement.
