On August 24 and 25, Kenya will conduct its national census, and in an effort to curb excessive drinking, the government has ordered bars and drinking joints to close by 5pm. However, residents of Busia, a region near the Kenya-Uganda border, have vowed to defy this order and cross into Uganda to enjoy their favorite drinks.

According to the residents, the government's directive will not affect them, as they can easily cross into Uganda and enjoy their drinks from Ugandan bars. 'We, alcohol-lovers from Busia, are not affected in any way by Matiang'i's directive to shut Kenyan bars by 5pm on August 24 and 25. We are neighboring Uganda, and, on those two days, we will cross the border and enjoy our drinks from Ugandan bars,' said one of the Busia residents.

Another resident added, 'Matiang'i should know that we will cross the border. We'll enter Uganda, enjoy our drinks and return to Kenya when we want.'

Residents of Busia claim that Ugandan bars are more affordable, with a bottle of 500ml beer costing Ksh100, compared to Kenyan bars which they find expensive.

On a separate note, in Molo Sub-County, Nakuru County, police exhumed the body of a 26-year-old woman after her lover, 38, confessed to killing and burying her four weeks ago.

The suspect, Geoffrey Kipkurui, led police officers to Bargeret Forest in Molo, where he interred Daisy Chebet's body after murdering her over allegations of infidelity.

As police exhumed Chebet's body from the shallow grave dug 300 meters from Kipkurui's house, scores of onlookers attempted to attack the suspect. Police, however, rescued Kipkurui from the irate crowd.
