On February 4, 2019, a grant seeker submitted a proposal to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and Office of the Public Prosecutions to energize the war against corruption.
However, the proposal was allegedly stolen and used as a speech to launch a similar initiative by the Archbishop of a mainstream church.
The Daily Nation published the speech as a news story without crediting the grant seeker as the originator of the idea.
The grant seeker claims that the Daily Nation plagiarized his work, but the newspaper denies any wrongdoing, stating that there is no evidence of plagiarism.
According to the grant seeker, his main beef is that his proposal has been bypassed, and he has not received a response from the three agencies.
He now accuses the Daily Nation of publishing plagiarized information, but the newspaper maintains that it has done nothing wrong.
Blacks Law Dictionary defines plagiarism as: “The act or an instance of copying or stealing another's words or ideas and attributing them as one’s own.”
After reviewing the concept paper against the Nation story, it was found that no plagiarism of any type is present.
