On Saturday morning, a tragic incident occurred in Polyview Estate, Kisumu City, where a man was shot dead in the presence of his family.

The victim, identified as Peter Otieno Ogallo, was allegedly shot thrice in the chest by Daniel Yona Jaoko, the manager of Ray Green Hotel in Nyamasaria.

Jaoko had dropped off his girlfriend, Vivian Achieng Meresa, who resides in the same compound as Otieno, at around 5 am.

County police commander Benson Maweu confirmed the incident and reported that Jaoko and his girlfriend have been arrested and are being held at Kondele police station.

The motive behind the killing was reportedly petty, as Otieno was shot after trying to remove his Nissan matatu from a parking spot that was blocked by Jaoko's black Jeep.

According to Maweu, two bullets pierced Otieno's left chest, seriously damaging his lungs and leading to his death.

A Ceska pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition was recovered during the arrest, as well as 42 rounds of ammunition found at Jaoko's house.

Jaoko was also found to be in possession of a firearm license issued in 2012, but had not complied with a directive from Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.
