Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria Honours Fallen Musician John De'Mathew

On the eve of his burial, the people of Murang'a will come together to celebrate the life and music of John De'Mathew, a legendary Kikuyu Benga musician who passed away on August 18, 2019.

According to Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, the music show, which will be held at the Golden Palm Hotel in Kenol town, will give De'Mathew's fans a chance to remember him by playing all his music.

De'Mathew, who had a career spanning over 30 years, produced over 50 albums and was widely regarded as a seer or a Kikuyu prophet by local leaders.

Artistes drawn from the Mt Kenya region will attend the event, which will be held on Friday before De'Mathew's burial on Saturday at his ancestral home in Mukurwe, Gatanga.

As part of the event, fans of the late musician have formed a WhatsApp group where they are pledging goats which will be slaughtered during the event.
